About Me + CV

After completing undergraduate studies (B.A. Fine Art, Asbury College, Lexington, KY: 1980) and backpacking across Europe, like art students should, I found myself in a year-long internship as an assistant preparator at a public gallery (Oakville Galleries). That job opened the door to a career in the public gallery sector, leading to positions at the Art Gallery of Hamilton (Preparator, 1983 – 1986), Oakville Galleries (Curator, 1986 – 1991), Inter/Access: Electronic Media Art Centre (Project & Event Coordinator, 1991 – 1994), The Craft Gallery, Ontario Crafts Council (Curator, 1993 – 1998), Prime Gallery, Toronto (2004 – 2006), John B. Aird Gallery, Toronto (Director, 1998 to 2014) and Canadian Art Foundation (Print Production Manager, 2015 to present).

In the 80’s, while curating exhibitions for Oakville Galleries, I began using an Apple Macintosh computer to create support materials for exhibitions. Those were early days for the personal computer. Apple was  just beginning to revolutionize how artists and designers create and I got in on the ground floor. In the 90s, my experience with Apple systems and design software increased while working at Inter/Access, an artist-run gallery and production studio dedicated to the creative use of technology, electronic art and new media. Further part-time studies in graphic design at Ryerson Polytechnic and other community colleges, led me to fully integrate my interest in the visual arts with my love of design. Over time, the focus of my work transitioned within the visual arts sector from curatorial work to graphic design and print production.
